The tobacco barn, a type of functionally classified barn found in the USA, was once an essential ingredient in the process of air-curing tobacco. In the 21st century they are fast disappearing from the landscape in places where they were once ubiquitous. The barns have declined with the tobacco industry in general, and U.S. States such as Maryland actively discourage tobacco farming. When the US tobacco industry was at its height, tobacco barns were found everywhere the crop was grown. Tobacco barns were as unique as each area in which they were erected, and there is no one design that can be described as a tobacco barn.

I have had a successful career as a Professional Commercial Photographer for 38 years and recently retired to move closer to my family in North Carolina. Over the years I photographed many different types of products for advertising. In addition I photographed models for 3 major catalog companies. I studied art in college graduating with a BFA degree in Communications Art & Design. Throughout my career art directors appreciated working with me because of my keen eye for design and arrangement. I now carry those skills into my retirement years and am able to follow my interests in creative photography where I photograph subjects that interest me.
